Aaron's Story

It started with a kid who loved dirt.

Is that a kid having his sixth birthday party at the local Caterpillar dealership? Why, yes, it is. Despite having no family or exposure to the Dirt World as a child, Aaron was addicted to dirt and the machines that move it. From drooling over construction sites on his way to school to aimlessly digging holes in the backyard, it's no surprise that this dirt nerd never grew up and left the sandbox. We think growing up is overrated anyway.

Aaron's Story

The kid “grew up” and found construction.

Since his parents told him to grow up and be somebody, Aaron got a job as a laborer on a pipe crew at 18. As he went to engineering school (which he hated), he worked at five different heavy construction companies from local to multi-billion dollar firms. He planned to experience as much Dirt World as possible before starting his own construction company, but we now know how well that went.

Aaron's Story

The kid started telling dirt stories and it caught on.

Beginning on Instagram, Aaron started telling stories about his experiences in the Dirt World. After realizing there was a significant lack of quality storytelling in such a dynamic industry, he quit his day job to tell stories full time. After a few years of doing it, it's grown to be a bit bigger than a kid running around the world with a camera.

Our Values

What we stand for as people and as a company.

Spectacular results are preceded by spectacular preparation.

Successfully making the Dirt World a better place won’t happen by accident. The better we prepare, the better we will perform. “Give me six hours to chop down a tree, and I’ll spend the first four sharpening the ax.” -- Abraham Lincoln

01

1 great person beats 3 good people.

We expect three times the average quality and productivity out of each team member. Our competitors, who will likely be less disciplined in their hiring practices, will need a team three times our size to compete. Hiring is simple. It’s hell yes, or it’s a no.

02

Excellence is a habit.

How we do anything is how we do everything. We must take pride in the smallest aspects of whatever we do. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” -- Aristotle

03

Leadership through transparency.

We practice full transparency internally and externally. There are no secrets with one another, our business, or our partners. Transparency starts with us -- we must lead by example before we expect others to be vulnerable too.

04

There’s no right way to do the wrong thing.

If you always do what you sincerely believe is the right thing to do, BuildWitt will stand behind you. We hold our partners to the same standards, too. “Right is right, even if everyone else is against it, and wrong is wrong, even if everyone is for it.” -- William Penn

05

Decision-making is a requirement.

We expect everyone at BuildWitt, no matter their title, to make their own decisions. Leadership is here to support you, not make decisions for you. “In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.” -- Theodore Roosevelt

06

Be a friend.

We don’t buy into the whole “professional relationships” thing. How can we be there for our Partners beyond business? How can we be their friends? How can we be friends with one another?

07

Stay humble or be humbled.

We aren’t the ones who are changing the dirt world -- our Partners are. Arrogance and thinking that we’re the stars of the show is the quickest way to our demise. “A great man is always willing to be little.” -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

08

Be the example.

Our official safety motto. While safety is first about keeping ourselves and our team members safe, for us, safety is also about keeping the Dirt World safe.

The BuildWitt Model

This is a whole lot bigger than a few pretty pictures.
