No matter the industry, the phrase “we can’t find enough good people” is rampant. Not at our business.

For a single position we recently advertised, we received over 250 great applicants. How?

1. We work hard to create a business where people enjoy being. That means high compensation, meaningful work, high growth potential, world-class benefits, and empowering people to make decisions.

2. We’ve created a notable online brand and presence. People already know what it’s like to work here, and our online reach allows us to cast an enormous net. Even though we’re a young company with limited resources, we can access a hiring pool in the hundreds of thousands for free.

3. We’re heavily investing in our talent acquisition process. Since our future success is directly correlated to how many great people we have, we decided to hire a full-time recruiter. While it’s an enormous expense at face value for such a small business, for us, it’s a no-brainer.

4. We’re honest and authentic in our job descriptions. We make them unique. We don’t act like we know everything. We clearly state that our company isn’t for everyone. We expect a lot, and we tell people this up front before they apply. We aren’t afraid of scaring people off.

You must WORK to attract the best people possible. They no longer show up at your door! If your business is struggling to attract great people, it’s YOUR responsibility to make the changes necessary to solve the problem.

The power’s with the people, not businesses. People want more than just a paycheck, and they have more options today than ever before.
