Why are you passionate about dirt/BuildWitt?
I’m passionate about BuildWitt because we are telling the real story about construction. For too long, society has taught us that if you’re a blue collar worker, you’re less than. If you work in construction, then you’re just a ditch digger. If you didn’t get a 4 year college education, then you’re not smart. That working in construction is second class work and you can’t make a good living. None of that is true. In reality, construction is one of the few industries that’s absolutely essential to society, along with the blue collar humans who build the world every single day. I’m stoked to be part of the team that is helping to tell the real story.
What motivates you more than anything else? What’s your personal “why”?
As far as work goes, my motivation comes from BuildWitt’s mission to make the dirt world a better place. Overall though, I feel as though I have an overwhelming responsibility and duty to myself and my family to do the right thing and be the best version of myself.
Favorite past times/hobbies?
Two of my favorite things to do for fun are to go snowboarding and play ice hockey.
A few years ago I discovered pond hockey (see a few of my videos here – https://www.instagram.com/p/B6jpr6NBec-/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link and https://www.instagram.com/p/Brsd40NhC9s/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link)
I also love going to Lake Powell in southern Utah with my family to spend time on the lake every summer. We look forward to Lake Powell trips more than Christmas!
Favorite book and/or quote?
I have quite a few favorite books, but for this list I’ll pick the book 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan B. Peterson. My favorite rule from the book is rule 7 “Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient)”
Favorite piece of equipment and why?
Back in my equipment operating days I usually enjoyed running a trackhoe most. But I also really enjoyed operating cranes (I still have my NCCCO certification). Something I would love to get a chance to operate would be a snowcat at a ski resort!
Who do you look up to?
I really admire my wife Paige for her no bullshit and “get it done” attitude. I tend to overthink things, whereas she jumps in headfirst. I look up to my dad in so many ways. He is the hardest working person I know, and is the person who has shown me that grit, determination, and the will to succeed can help build a meaningful life. I also look up to my mom because she is the most selfless person that I know.
What food could you eat forever?
I love chips and salsa. Guacamole and queso too. Once I start eating chips, it’s hard for me to stop.
