When Personal Growth Drives Jobsite Performance
“They're self-assigning videos that have nothing to do with construction but everything to do with improving their personal lives.”
Trucco Construction is a large union site development contractor based in central Ohio.
After attending the Ariat Dirt World Summit, their leaders sought a better way to train younger operators new to the company and industry.
Before rolling BuildWitt Improve out to the field, company leadership gave their more experienced foremen and superintendents the rundown, explaining the why:
"I sold it to them as another tool if you see someone struggling on a dozer out there. Assign them the dozer courses. If I were in their shoes, I would appreciate the heck out of that."
But something unexpected happened…
"It seems backwards to say, but it's the more experienced people we have, like foremen and up, who appreciate it and use it the most."
As utilization has increased among their people, one type of content has stood out the most…

"I chuckle when I look through the reports on what our people are watching. They're self-assigning videos that have nothing to do with construction but everything to do with improving their personal lives. Your whole thing, making the Dirt World a better place, is what needs to happen to get these young people to come here and keep working for us."
Now that Trucco's team has used BuildWitt Improve for some time, not only are individuals growing, but the entire culture is changing for the better.
"We were recently discussing an issue in the field. One of our senior leaders was like, 'I didn't lose my cool'... And another field leader started chuckling. He said, 'Man, BuildWitt's ruined you,' because he didn't handle it the way he would have in the past. It was a joke, as the guy who said that is 100% on board and enjoys it too. It's cool to see that change, these guys, you know, with perspectives that are 20, 30 years into their careers."
